Nokia Corporation in Second Life would like to invite everyone to attend the September 25 installment of the Nokia Connected Worlds events.

This event will bring together five of the top themed virtual communities in Second Life, for an exploration of how their unique cultures interact with the diverse overall community of Second Life, and their ability to function in a mobile society.

THIS WILL BE A VOICE EVENT. Text is welcome but voice is preferred. Expect some creative chaos, as moderation will be minimal and only as-needed.

The five communities are -

1 Wastelands – A virtual post-apocalyptic residential and roleplaying continent, dedicated to post-apocalyptic survivalism, and a grungy-but-fun sense of community. Everything from bands of desert raiders to Mad Max style shanty towns dot the landscape, as well as treacherous pitfalls and radioactive swamps. A very interesting community, roughly themed as a mixture of Fallout and Mad Max type environments, which has also become quite the desireable destination for people wishing to live out their dreams of post-apocalyptic savagery in a courteous and extremely well-done residential environment.

2 Steelhead City and Europa – Home to the famed Baron Wulfenbach, who will be piloting his majestic flying castle airship, Castle Wulfenbach, to Nokia sim, and will serve as the gracious host of the activities in his grand ballroom therein. Steelhead and Europa are a light-hearted steampunk sim, where the power of steam has been harnessed to drive technology, and the citizens live in victorian elegance.

3 The Ordo Imperialis – Loosely based on the warhammer 40k roleplaying game system, the Ordo Imperialis works as a military organization with strict protocol, and tight training of its elite troops. They roleplay as soldiers in a future space army, protecting a fortess planet from other groups vying for supremacy. A fun, well-run operation.

4 New Caledon – A large residential continent, where community members can live out their dreams of a steam powered paralell world, hosting “expeditions” to the mainland of Second Life, and living in a pesudo-science fiction world of their own design, where steam is king.

5 Harry Potter – Dedicated roleplayers who live out their fantasies of magic and academics of the netherworld in the Hogwarts sims designed by Liquid Heat. These roleplayers focus on playing the roles of Hogwarts students and instructors, in a lively fantasy environment.

Europa-

The members of the Consulate of Europa Wulfenbach group in Second life are fans, not employees of Studio Foglio. Our Primary Mission is to promote the works of Studio Foglio, specifically the series “Girl Genius”. The role play is secondary to this, though it is the primary function of some of the avatars.

The group members will speak of the “Histories”, referring to the web comic found at www.girlgeniusonline.net and the radio plays available at http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/radio/radio.php. We are not entirely sure what to do with Othar Tryggvarsen’s Twitter https://twitter.com/Othar, but then – does anyone know what to do with Othar, other than defenestration?

With the exception of the Baron, no other characters are lifted whole-cloth from canon. Everyone else is generally an original character. Many of these characters are based on the Europan society of the Girl Genuis mythos. However, some have taken a left turn at Turin, just so you’re warned.

We have made some assumptions for this CGARP, specific to our group. It is some years, possibly as much as ten to fifteen years, after the current story line in the Histories, with the occasional dratted time window. Baron Wulfenbach has gone walkabout. Through diverse mad efforts, he has breached the aether to find the grid. The Baron is semi-retired, and he took on the Consular mission to let Gil and Agatha take center stage. He is still lending a hand to run things, which fuels his need to explore this new world as an escape from the politics. He’s quite tired of running the kindergarten, and with Gil taking a more public role, he has chosen to become the Consul for Europa Wulfenbach at Caledon, expanding to Steelhead, Winterfell, Antiquity and Steeltopia. He has dragged a laboratory manager from the Castle Wulfenbach to help take care of the details, and they have recruited several to the cause of making sure the Truth Will Out. There are an uncomfortable number of Agathas running about, but also a number of Jaegers and associate researchers as well.

Be advised – we are generally in character, even when not actively in a role-play event. and while we don’t expect you to do so as well, we do ask that you please respect the personalities of each avatar.

Caledon-

Caledon is a 19th Century Victorian Steampunk MIcronation currently made up of 43 sims and nearly seven-hundred citizens. We pride ourselves on our politiness, civility, and civic duty. Our newest sim Caledon Oxbridge will be a community gateway welcoming new residents to Second Life.

What to expect: Evil genius mad scientists, werewolf sheriff, neko, elves, red haired females that give one hell of an evil eye and pie… lots of pie.

Ordo Imperialis -

The history of the Ordo Imperialis is one that stretches back to June of 2006, beginning with strife within the Alliance Navy. A member of their high command by the name of Shadow Keegan (then Admiral Keegan) had grown wary of the direction the Alliance had taken. Fueled by an acclaimed desire to do well, the admiral gathered with him a sum of followers and broke away to create the . . . creatively named “Alliance Navy II.” His intentions were to undermine the Alliance, touting claims of wishing to return to the golden era of the organization, to stray from the tyrannical tendencies they’d taken. With the assistance of a region owner, Dirk Dasilva, Admiral Keegan purchased headquarters within the locale of Venume North. It is during this time that Aryte Vesperia was invited into the fold by Shadow Keegan’s partner, Fladara Eingarme. Fladara, a past acquaintance of Aryte, assigned the then small-time land baron to maintaining the diplomatic functions of the Alliance Navy II.

Ambassador Vesperia took on the position, serving through the Alliance Navy II throughout June and into July. However, a particularly grave discontent began to grow within their own ranks—a discontent that rank deep enough to turn Admiral Keegan’s own spouse against him. Fladara Eingarme staged a coup against Keegan . . . aiming to elevate herself to the status of commander; but, in some strange twist of fate, the coconspirators turned away from the prospect during the climatic end, naming the then-retiring ambassador as their choice of replacement. Vesperia accepted the promotion at the urging of his confidants—such as Ethan Schuman, and Keno Pontoppidan. Enumerated with the ability to enact policy, Admiral Vesperia worked feverously to pull the Alliance Navy II away from its founding, shifting into a new name and progression: the Venuma Coalition. Under this directive, the organization flourished and established healthy bonds, even to the point of reaching non-aggression with the Alliance Navy.

The tale turns sour from here, however. The Coalition’s infantry commander, the former aggressor of the original coup, Fladara Eingarme, became disillusioned with the group after their war mongering had been forcefully stifled. With a small band of treasonous assistants, Eingarme broke away from the Coalition to formulate the Advanced Military Logistics Movement (AMLM). At odds, the Venuma Coalition and the AMLM battled bitterly for a short time, ending in the surrender of the splinter faction. Believing the situation to be dealt with at the signing of the conditions, Admiral Vesperia took a brief leave of absence to visit loved ones out of state.

The treachery ran much deeper than anyone could have guessed—in Vesperia’s absence, Dirk Dasilva, the region owner, was persuaded by the subdued AMLM into believing the Coalition had turned to pawns of the Alliance Navy. Fladara Eingarme claimed that support for Aryte Vesperia’s rule had crumbled internally, bringing Dasilva to withdraw control of Venuma North from the Coalition, forcing the resignations of multiple members of the high command. Enraged upon hearing of such a betrayal, Admiral Vesperia systematically dismantled the Coalition—proving quite clearly that Dasilva had made a grave error in judgment: support had not wilted, but grown for the deposed commander. At this time, August of 2006, the Novus Ordo Imperialis saw its founding: a new, fresh organization, with self-sustaining prospects and the ability to maintain itself without the oversight of land barons. Growth and development was wide within their home region of Macaroth, with massive expanses in all fields of military efficiency. Alas, the rising status of the Novus Ordo Imperialis brought jealously from its neighbors, spurning the Alliance Navy’s selfish desire to reign supreme by the destruction of their mutual allies.

The Alliance Navy plotted for months, going so far as attempting to create a rift between the Novus Ordo Imperialis and the Merczateers. But their efforts proved to be without gain, as a more pressing concern had taken its toll upon the NOI. Aryte Vesperia, tired with the burdens his career had bestowed upon him and the unrewarding spectrum of the military community, submitted his resignation and peacefully bowed out of the scene. In the wake of his stepping down, the remaining high command of the Novus Ordo Imperialis decided to follow suit, closing the doors of the organization on the evening of November 5th, 2006.

Passion flickered; ambitions not easily set aside. But a month later, the weaponry development company Titan Industries was founded in the region of Ratin with much of the former military’s staff filling its employee rosters, including Aryte Vesperia as the president. Over the period of the next six months, Titan Industries remained an active addition to the commercial venue, allowing for the development of advanced materials and the time for the former command of the Novus Ordo Imperialis to situate their personal concerns. Meanwhile, a war had broken out between the Merczateers and the Alliance Navy; a war that saw many of the loyalists of Titan conscripting themselves to the aid of the Merczateers, fueled by the desire to defend their historic allies.

That desire came to a head in April of 2007, with the enlistment of Aryte Vesperia into the Merczateers. Soon after the full weight of the veteran staff of Titan Industries followed, bolstering the front against the Alliance Navy alongside their longtime friends. Although, the manner of the former Novus Ordo Imperialis members and that of the Merczateers differed widely, causing clashes to the point that they summarily resigned to avoid the degrading of the all-important relations. Fueled by the taste of glory and the rush of combat, droves of former Novus Ordo enlistees sought to see a return to their roots. They sought to see a rebirth. Backed by the technological giant of Titan Industries, steeled by the experience of the veterans of the Novus Ordo Imperialis, and inspired by the promises of glory, the Ordo Imperialis rose to its feet and locked away the deluge of disillusionment.

With faith in our hearts and purpose in our minds, we exist today: steadfast, upright, and prepared to meet any challenge put in our paths.

Second Life is a 3d world imagined and created by its residents. Hogwarts New Beginnings is run by fans in virtual reality allowing for highly interactive role play set within our fandom themes. We offer members a real life experience to live out their fantasy by playing characters such as students, professors, ministry officials, and several others. You can participate and take classes where you earn points for your school house or can lose points just as easily. We try to create the experiences as close as possible but role play is always up to the fans and the direction they take it can very creative and extremely exciting.

This will be a mixed reality event connected with the Nokia Open Lab 2008 event being hosted in Helsinki tomorrow.
